Mrs Nordic recently received a submission from Mrs Shaw seeking advice to renovate her lounge room. Below are her suggested tips and tricks.
Thank you for your request for advise from Mrs Nordic. I assume from the images you sent me of your home that you are either of Scandinavian origin or a fan of that style? I think the lambs wool hide over the chair is the give way and, by the way, a definite favourite look of mine.
I think your living room has lots of potential and you’re very lucky to have that wonderful high angled roofline as it instantly gives the room form, space and no doubt lots of light. To bring your living room to life, I recommend you add more colour and pattern and a few objects of interest so I’ve listed my suggestions below and have given you image examples on the following pages:
1. Paint the brickwork surround of your fireplace white. This will modernise and lighten the room considerably and make less of a feature of the bricks.
2. Replace the curtains with a classic Scandi print.
3. Introduce a rug to break up the space and add colour.
4. Add a hanging light in the corner between your 2 sofas as this adds a sculptural quality that looks great and gives light to that corner. If your light socket is in the middle of the room just ask your electrician to add more cord to the light and hook it over to the corner.
5. An inexpensive way to add colour to your walls is to introduce a fabric canvas or a wall sticker.
6. I love table runners so I’d add one to your coffee table and when your children are older and less likely to break things, I’d include some bowls or a pile of books or magazines just to add that homey touch.
Thank you for your submission and I hope to be of service again and look forward to seeing your finished photos.
